NOTHING IS WHAT IT SEEMS

Told By An Idiot / Burnley Youth Theatre

Mr Jeremy is rehearsing his highly anticipated, groundbreaking new adaptation of 'Little Red Riding Hood' with the Burnley Youth Theatre ensemble, but the fine line between fantasy and reality becomes blurred and Nothing Is What It Seems...

To coincide with Told by an Idiot's co-production of The Cat and The Canary with Chichester Festival Theatre, we embarked on a new film project with an ensemble of young performers aged 11 - 16 years old, in partnership with Burnley Youth Theatre.

Through a three-day residency, the ensemble worked with Told by an Idiot practitioners to devise and shoot a short horror/comedy film inspired by Angela Carter's The Werewolf.

Told by an Idiot asked me to to make a short film, giving me the brief of a ‘comedy horror, inspired by Angela Carter’s The Werewolf’.

As we only had three days to create and film, I wanted to come in with quite a tight concept the young people could devise from. The idea was a murder mystery but set during rehearsals that start to go dangerously wrong…

This project was such a laugh and also I’m so proud that we devised and shot a ten-minute film in just three days!

Behind The Scenes

Young people took on various roles throughout the shoot - actors, gaffer, boom operator… and social media content creator! Check out their short behind the scenes film.
