Touring with Told by an Idiot
Being Associate Director on Told by an Idiot’s Kill Will has been a pleasure. It’s involved being the creative lead while away in Romania, making quick decisions as we moved the site-specifc show throughout various locations in the city of Craiova, and then again when we were back performing in the UK.
This was a very silly show about two Shakespeares fighting each other in increasingly ridiculous ways, and it was such a joy to be a part of a project that was so inherently entertaining, theatrical and extremely unpredictable!
What I loved about this show was that because it was street theatre, audiences were empowered to walk away at any minute! So often we’re trapped in a theatre whether we like it or not, whereas here there was something refreshing about the direct connection between audience and performer. And we certainly knew when it wasn’t working and we had to work harder!
I saw my first Told by an Idiot show in 2013, and they’ve been one of my inspirations ever since. It was a real privilege to be Associate Director for them on this.
